Notes: Abstract Within the framework of the hydrodynamic model the exact coupling constants of the coupling of the giant multipole resonances to the surface quadrupole oscillations of nuclei are derived. The differences to former variational calculations are discussed. It is found that the coupling constants for the terms linear in the surface variables are almost the same whereas the coupling constants for the quadratic terms differ appreciably. The influence on the photon absorption and scattering cross sections of spherical nuclei is discussed.

Notes: Abstract The effect of screening in atomic field pair production is calculated in Born approximation without approximation as to energy or angle and compared with the results of previous calculations based on the high energy approximation. The difference between the two calculations is comparable to the errors in recent experiments. The effect of nuclear excitation on the total pair production cross section is also investigated, but is found to be extremely small.

Notes: Abstract The variational equation determining the Jastrow correlation function is investigated with particular emphasis on the healing problem for both nuclear matter and finite nuclei. The consequences of several healing conditions are discussed. Furthermore, influences from the choice of the single particle basis and from long range correlations are studied and are found to be small in the short range region.

Notes: Abstract A variational equation for the Jastrow Correlation function is derived from the energy functional expanded up to three-body cluster terms. The asymptotic behaviour of this nonlinear equation is studied. The solutions show a healing at least of the type cos(tαr)/r 2. The influence of higher cluster contributions is studied. Finally, it is discussed, how one can reduce the many-body cluster contributions to healing conditions to be used in the two-body cluster treatment.

Notes: Abstract A nonrelativistic calculation of the elastic electron deuteron scattering has been performed in which the effects arising from nucleon polarization have been systematically investigated. These effects have been taken into account by admixing isobar configurations into the deuteron wave function. Explicit expressions for the various contributions to the respective deuteron form factors have been given. At higher momentum transfers inclusion of the isobar configurations leads to a substantial increase in the form factors which qualitatively appears to account for at least some of the discrepancies between theory and experiment.

Notes: Abstract In a simple model of a spinless particle moving in a finite square well potential influences of final state Born approximation and of various approximations in the electromagnetic operators on photoabsorption differential, total and integrated cross sections are investigated. While the Born approximation is very poor in all respects, the long wave length approximation turns out to be the best and reproduces the total cross section quite well. However, appreciable deviations occur in the differential cross section at intermediate energies. The integrated cross section slightly exceeds the classical sum rule resulting from nonanalyticity of the forward compton scattering amplitude, as is discussed in the limiting case of theδ-potential.

Notes: Abstract: The influence of final-state NN and πN rescattering in incoherent pion photoproduction on the deuteron has been investigated. For the elementary photoproduction operator an effective Lagrangian model is used which describes well the elementary reaction. The interactions in the final two-body subsystems are taken in separable form. While NN rescattering shows quite a significant effect, particularly strong for neutral pion production, πN rescattering is almost negligible. Inclusion of such effects leads to an improved and quite satisfactory agreement with experiment.

Notes: Abstract It is shown that the Gartenhaus-Schwartz-transformation of the electric multipole operator Ω[L], i.e. expressing it in lab frame coordinates, not only leads to the well known concept of kinematic effective charges but in addition gives 2-, 3-,...,N-particle operator contributions whereN=min(A, L). In particular forE2 transitions the electric quadrupole operator contains one- and two-particle operators which contribute to the single particle transition rate and which will lead to two particle transitions.

Notes: Abstract. Coherent pion electroproduction on the deuteron is studied in the Δ(1232) resonance region in the impulse approximation, i.e., neglecting pion rescattering and two-body effects. The elementary reaction on the nucleon is described in the framework of an effective Lagrangian approach including the dominant P 33(1232) resonance and the usual background terms of the Born contributions for π0 production. We have studied the influence of these different contributions on the various structure functions which determine the unpolarized exclusive differential cross section in a variety of kinematic regions.
