Both the sedimentation coefficient s and the diffusion coefficient D of tetrabromoethane in triolein have been determined. In this system the molecular weight of the solvent is higher than that of the solute in contradistinction to what is common in such measurements. From the values found it follows that the mobility of the tetrabromoethane molecule in triolein is about 5 times higher than that calculated from hydrodynamics. On the other hand s and D satisfy the SVEDBERG equation, which indicates that the applicability of this equation is not limited to systems which can be treated hydrodynamically.
