Notes: Summary The mechanism of death was studied while investigating the pathogenesis of pulmonary edema induced by intravenous injections of silver nitrate. Hemodynamic and some other indices were recorded. A direct relationship exists between the life span following AgNO3 injection and hemodynamic disturbances. There was an inverse correlation between the length of life and the oxygen content in the arterial blood. Observations presented show that the death of the animals was caused chiefly by the circulatory hypoxia induced by primary changes in the circulatory system resulting directly from the action of silver nitrate.

Notes: Summary With the aid of electrodes located at the end of a catheter introduced into the lungs through the bronchi or blood vessels, a measurements was made of the electric resistance of the lungs with a subsequent separation of the useful signal into the ohmic and capacitance components. A block diagram is presented and a brief description is given of the main elements of the instrument. Some problems concerning the equivalent electric circuit diagram of the object, as well as of the accuracy and the range of measurements are discussed. Some practical results concerning the clinical use of this method are presented.
