    Description / Table of Contents: Summary The orthophosphoric acid produced in the combustion of phosphorusbearing organic compounds afterSchöniger and the subsequent boiling of the pure aqueous solution of the combustion products is titrated acidimetrically. The titration in greatly concentrated solution in the presence of thymolphthalein as indicator includes the first and second dissociation stages. With samples weighing from 4–40 mg and with phosphorus contents from 4–14%, the maximal error is ±0.3% P, and much less as a rule. The method fails with samples which contain still other elements in addition to carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, and phosphorus. The advantages of the procedure as compared with other methods are pointed out. The conditions essential to a quantitative conversion of the phosphorus into orthophosphoric acid and its precise titration were studied and are discussed.
    Abstract: Résumé On a titré par acidimétrie l'acide orthophosphorique engendré pendant la combustion suivantSchöniger de substances organiques contenant du phosphore et pendant l'ébullition subséquente de la solution aqueuse pure du produit de combustion. Le titrage en solution fortement concentrée, en présence de thymolphtaléine comme indicateur, met en évidence le premier et le deuxième stade de la dissociation. Pour des prises d'essai de 15 à 40 mg de substance contenant 4 à 14% de phosphore, l'erreur maximale s'élève à ±0,3% de P, mais elle est ordinairement moins importante. La méthode n'est pas valable pour les échantillons contenant encore d'autres éléments en plus du carbone, de l'hydrogène, de l'oxygène et du phosphore. On fait ressortir les avantages de ce procédé sur les autres. On expérimente ou l'on discute les conditions nécessaires pour une transformation quantitative du phosphore en acide orthophosphorique et pour un titrage exact.
    Notes: Zusammenfassung Die bei der Verbrennung phosphorhältiger organischer Substanzen nachSchöniger und bei darauffolgendem Kochen der rein wäßrigen Lösung der Verbrennungsprodukte entstehende Orthophosphorsäure wird acidimetrisch titriert. Die Titration in stark eingeengter Lösung gegen Thymolphthalein als Indikator erfaßt die erste und zweite Dissoziationsstufe. Bei Einwaagen von 15 bis 40 mg Substanz mit Phosphorgehalten von 4 bis 14% beträgt der Fehler maximal ± 0,3% P, in der Regel aber erheblich weniger. Die Methode versagt bei Proben, die außer Kohlenstoff, Wasserstoff, Sauerstoff und Phosphor noch andere Elemente enthalten. Auf die Vorteile des Verfahrens gegenüber anderen Methoden wird hingewiesen. Die für eine quantitative Überführung des Phosphors in Orthophosphorsäure und eine genaue Titration notwendigen Bedingungen werden untersucht bzw. diskutiert.

    Notes: Abstract The half-life of Rb87 was measured by the following method: NaJ(Tl)+RbJ- and CsJ(Tl)+RbJ-scintillation crystals were grown containing 1.13 and 13 weightpercent RbJ resp. The integral counting rates of these crystals were determined by extrapolation of the integral spectrum from 4 keV (NaJ(Tl)) and 6 keV (CsJ(Tl)) to sero energy. Then these crystals were pulverized, and the powder was counted in layers of saturation thickness in a Methan flow counter. The counting rates of the flow counter were attached to the Rb-contents of the layers by measuring mixtures of NaJ(Tl)+RbJ- and CsJ(Tl)+RbJ-powder of known compositions. By this procedure we determined the specific activity of natural Rubidium at (744±15) cps/g and the half-life of Rb87 at (5.80±0.12) 1010 years. This result agrees with other determinations obtained with scintillation crystals, but disagrees with results obtained with counter tubes and geological determinations.
