Summary The comparison of nephrohydrosis produced by partial tangential decortication with hydronephrosis caused by ligature of the ureter yields evident differences in the speed of developing dilatations of the kidney-tubules. As the „Windkessel“-function of the renal pelvis 13 not effective in nephrohydrosis the course of initial dilatation and subsequent atrophy of the nephrons is essentially accelerated. Although in nephrohydrosis there is no reflux of urine from the renal pelvis into the kidney-tubules, a maximal dilatation, however, of the nephrons is observed; therefore it must be doubted whether it is necessary to assume a pyelotubular reflux in the rabbit. Increased formation of casts in nephrohydrosis is due to disturbances in the resorption of the epithelium of the tubules, perhaps also to additional disturbances in the permeability of the glomeruli. The formation in the renal epithelium of hyaline droplets or else is missing. The histochemically demonstrable blockade and the later the destruction of various ferments in the epithelium of the tubules run parallel to the changing dilatations of the kidney-tubules. The lymph-vessels in nephrohydrosis like in hydronephrosis are in most cases intensively dilated and filled although the drainage of the renal pelvis is efficient. Therefore the significance of a pyelolymphatic reflux as a cause of a dynamic insufficiency of the lymph-vessels should not be over-estimated. After decortication a formation of cysts in the cortical scars is observed.
Notes:
