Materials which sinter have been found to be very suitable for use in numerous special applications.
    Notes: Der geschichtlichen Entwicklung der Pulvermetallurgie entsprechend wird zunächst ihre wirtschaftliche und technische Bedeutung behandelt. Das Gebiet gewinnt, besonders durch die steigende Verwendung von Titan, Molybdän, Zirkon u. a. bisher wenig benutzten Metallen, an Interesse. Sinterstoffe haben sich für zahlreiche Spezialaufgaben gut bewährt.

    Description / Table of Contents: Part II: The Scientific Fundamentals of Powder MetallurgyThe growth of powder metallurgy gave fresh impetus to a number of fields of research. The theory of the powdery state, particularly the thermodynamics and the kinetics of the grinding processes, the pressure distribution in a compressed powder, the mechanism of the sintering processes, the laws which govern the interdependence of the various properties of a sinter, the intermediate stages which are gone through in the sintering of powders which consists of a mixture of two or more metals, the wetting procedure in the impregnation process and many other fields of synthetic inorganic chemistry which have previously not been worked on either systematically or comprehensively, such as the carbides, the silicides, the borides and others, are particularly worth mentioning.
    Notes: Der Aufstieg der Pulvermetallurgie verlieh zahlreichen Forschungsgebieten neue Impulse. Hervorzuheben sind die Lehre vom pulverförmigen Zustand, insbes. die Thermodynamik und Kinetik der Zermahlungsvorgänge, die Druckverteilung in einem gepreßten Pulver, der Mechanismus der Sintervorgänge, die Gesetze, nach welchen sich die verschiedenen Eigenschaften eines Sinterlings gegenseitig festlegen, die Zwischenzustände, welche beim Sintern von Pulvern durchschritten werden, welche aus einem Gemisch von zwei oder mehreren Metallen bestehen, die Benetzungsvorgänge beim Tränkverfahren und manches bisher nur wenig systematisch und umfassend bearbeitete Gebiet der präparativen anorganischen Chemie, wie die Carbide, Silicide, Boride u. a. m.
