Zusammenfassung 1. Wir maßen Farb- und Helligkeitsschwellen auf neutralen Feldern, indem wir innerhalb solcher Felder Ringe entstehen ließen, die sich entweder durch Farbe oder durch Helligkeit von ihnen abhoben. 2. Unter diesen Bedingungen erwies sich die Farbschwelle abhängig von „Transformation“. Von zwei äquivalenten (reduktionsgleichen) Feldern besitzt das dunkel aussehende die niedrigere Farbschwelle. 3. Unter den gleichen Bedingungen erwies sich die Helligkeitsschwelle unabhängig von Transformation (Bestätigung von Katz). 4. Es gelang uns nicht, die Farbschwelle eines neutralen Feldes durch bloßen Kontrast zu verändern, d. h. dadurch, daß wir es mit einem helleren oder dunkleren Feld umgaben.

Summary 1. We measured colour- and brightness thresholds on neutral fields by producing within these fields rings different either in colour or brightness. 2. Under these conditions the colour threshold was found to depend upon the effect of “transformation”. Of two equivalent fields the one looking dark had a lower colour threshold than the one looking bright. 3. Under the same conditions the brightness thresholds proved to be independent of transformation (confirmation of Katz). 4. Lastly, we could not change the colour threshold of a neutral field by mere contrast, i. e. by surrounding it by a darker or brighter field.
