Notes:
Summary An improved technic for renal transplantation in rats of the strain Wistar/Han is described. The kidney is removed from the donor with parts of the vessels, the ureter and the bladder. A part of the V. cava is used as a patch and sutured with the vena cava of the host. The aorta is closed cranial to the renal artery, the caudal part is sutured as end-to-side-anastomosis to the aorta of the host. This is an advantage to the method ofLee because the two anastomoses are more distant one to each other and the technic becomes easier. The bladder of the donor animal is opened like an Y and sutured to the upper pole of the bladder of the host animal. 26.4 days is the harmonic mean value of the survival time and 40% of the rats survive renal transplantation. This gives possibilities to solve a number of experimental problems.
