The Influence of Specimen-thickness and Geometry on Fatigue Crack Propagation and Facture Toughness of PolcarbonateThis study deals with the influence of specimen-thickness and geometry of the fracture-behaviour of polycarbonate at room-temperature. With decreasing thickness, an increasing resistance against fatigue crack propagation and an increase of the fracture toughness under static loading conditions was observed. Additional J-integral-evalutions showed a good agreement with the values of the fracture toughness. Scanning electron microscopy studies of the facture surfaces showed the sequence of damage and te individual micromechanisms of fracture. Based on th latter, detailed informations were given for the interpretation of the mechanical properties as a function of specimen-geometry.

Diese Studie befaßt sich mit dem Einfluß von Probendicke und -geometrie auf das Bruchverhalten von Polcarbonat bei Raumtemperatur. Mit abnehmender Probendicke war sowohl eine Erhöhung des Widerstandes gegen Ermüdungsrißfortschritt als auch eine Zunahme in der Bruchzähigkeit unter statischer Belastung zu verzeichnen. Zusätzlich durchgeführte J-Integral-Vergleich ließen einen Vergleich mit den Bruchzähigkeitskennwerten zu. Rasterelektronemikroskopische Untersuchungen der Bruchflächen ergaben Hinweise über den Ablauf der Schädigung und die einzelnen Bruchmechanismen. Letztere lieferten gezielte Informationen zur Interpretation der mechanischen Kennwerte in Abhängigkeit von der Probengeometrie.
