Notes: Abstract Ranges of Ti ions, implanted into C with reduced velocities between 0.1 〈 ν/ν0 〈 5, ν0=e2/ħ, have been measured by Rutherford backscattering of a particles. By applying the concept of incremental range we have derived the electronic stopping power,S e, with a precision of about 1%; the estimated accuracy is 2%. All theories deviate from the experimental results considerably with respect to both magnitude and velocity dependence of Se.

Notes: Abstract. The optical properties of crystalline insulating materials can markedly be modified by irradiation with energetic ions. The exposed areas of such materials absorb and reflect light more strongly than non-irradiated ones. In this way, optical contrast is created. With modern equipment, ion beams of sufficient intensity can be focused to submicron dimensions. Thus, both analog and digital information can be recorded with pixel densities of Gbit/cm2 to Tbit/cm2. In particular, crystalline films of group-IV elements of the periodic system, such as Si, SiC and CD (diamond), are best suited for this novel ionographic process. The physical foundations of this technology and the resulting properties of the recorded data will be discussed.

Notes: Abstract Current-voltage characteristics of a gas field ion source (GFIS) have been measured for hydrogen and all rare gases. The parameter set included tip temperature, tip radius and gas temperature and pressure. This investigation has been made to get a complete overview of the field ion currents (FIC) and to estimate the maximum currents in a GFIS, which have been found to a few 100 nA. This estimate allows also a feasibility study of a GFIS, modified by a supertip, a small protuberance on the emitter surface.
