Summary Capillary zone electrophoresis with β-cyclodextrin as electrolyte additive has been investigated for the separation of the diastereomers of a 1,3-disubstituted tetrahydro-β-carboline. The effects of pH, buffer concentration, β-cyclodextrin concentration and applied voltage on resolution were investigated. This study shows that optimizing the assay conditions leads to maximum chiral separation or resolution. The method enables further research on the quantitative analysis of these compounds.
