Description / Table of Contents:
With 9 samples of cellulose-2,5-acetate different procedures of partial fractionation by extraction with an aceton-water mixture (55:45 wt %) and by precipitation from acetone solution with an appropriate amount of water were compared. After a longer residence time before isolating and drying the fractions, a considerable deacetylation was observed. The soluble part of the polymer was always larger with the precipitation as compared to the extraction technique. The relevance of the methods employed for the characterization of cellulose acetates is discussed.
Notes:
