Notes: Summary Ten patients with moderate to severe Raynaud's syndrome were recruited into a four week randomised double blind crossover study to compare the efficacy of UK-38,485 50 mg, a new thromboxane synthetase inhibitor with that of placebo. With the doses used there was no significant difference between the two treatment periods in the number, severity and duration of ischaemic attacks, the mean hand temperatures, forearm and digital blood flow and red blood cell rheology.

Notes: Abstract The intensive studies of equilibration processes in heavy ion reactions have produced a need for information on nuclear level densities at high energies. In a recent paper, it was concluded that standard Fermi gas formulas will be incorrect by exponential factors at energies above 100 MeV. Exact calculations of the nuclear level density in bases as large as 1038 have been made and are compared with Fermi gas formulas. Two possible alternative forms are considered. Both forms produce much better agreement at high energies than does the Fermi gas model. All calculations reported are for non-interacting Fermions, but the effects expected from the two-body interaction are briefly examined. These considerations have consequences not only in heavy ion physics but also in astrophysics.

Notes: Abstract A recent paper compared moment method and Lanczos method calculations of the level density of20Ne. The present work extends this comparison to include a new type of Lanczos expansion. This expansion procedure shares the advantage of the traditional Lanczos method of a positive definite level density, but unlike the latter, may be used in an essentially infinite basis. Calculations utilizing dsdf and ppdsd bases have been compared with experimental values for the level density, parity ratio and spin cutoff parameters to determine the appropriateness of the input parameters and the model, while calculations in a dsd basis are compared with exact calculated results to test the accuracy of representation provided by the expansion technique.
