    Notes: Abstract The covariant and non-covariant Quantum Molecular Dynamics models are applied to investigate possible relativistic effects in heavy ion collisions at SIS energies. These relativistic effects which arise due to the full covariant treatment of the dynamics are studied at bombarding energiesE lab=50, 250, 500, 750, 1000, 1250, 1500, 1750 and 2000 MeV/nucl. A wide range of the impact parameter fromb=0 fm tob=10 fm is also considsered. In the present study, five systems12C-12C,16O-16O,20Ne-20Ne,28Si-28Si and40Ca-40Ca are investigated. The full covariant treatment at low energies shows quite good agreement with the corresponding non-covariant whereas at higher energies it shows less stopping and hence less thermal equilibrium as compared to the non-covariant approach. The collisions dynamics is less affected. The density using RQMD rises and drops faster than with QMD. The relativistic effects show some influence on the resonance matter production. Overall, the relativistic effects at SIS energies (≦2000 MeV/nucl.) are less significant.

    Notes: Summary The phenomenon of intergenic conversion (information transfer between dispersed but sequence-related genetic elements embedded in non homologous environments) has been demonstrated clearly in S. pombe as well as in other organisms. By analysing four particular aspects of intergenic conversion in S. pombe we reach the following conclusions: (1) The events are not RNA-mediated since transcription-deficient members of the serine tRNA gene family studied are as productive in intergenic information transfer as transcription-proficient members, (2) Intergenic recombination is not a reciprocal but a non-reciprocal process, (3) Intergenic conversion occurring at a particular locus does not influence crossing-over in the intervals adjacent to that locus, and (4) During meiosis the process occurs at the replicated (chromatid) stage rather than at the unreplicated (chromosome) stage.

    Notes: Abstract Measurements were made to determine the longitudinal polarization of the electrons emitted in the beta-decay of the second non-unique forbidden transition of99Tc at the energies of 150 keV and 200 keV. The amount of depolarization due to source effects was calculated using a newly developed Monte-Carlo code which takes into account all effects up to second order. The analyzing technique is based on Mott-scattering with a Wien-filter for spin rotation. The obtained results showed no deviation from −v/c, the value of allowed decays. This result is in agreement with theoretical calculations based on the formfactor-formalism as described by Behrens and Bühring.
