Notes: Abstract The12C(e, e'p)11B g.s reaction has been measured in parallel and anti-parallel kinematics over ap m range of −120〈p m〈120 MeV/c at a centralT p of 90 MeV. In contrast to previous measurements at NIKHEF, both kinematics can be described without enhancement of the transverse form factor of the bound proton (η=0.98(5)). The spectroscopic factor for this transition as determined with the new Mainz data (S α =1.54(5)) is 22% smaller than the NIKHEF value.

Notes: Abstract In extremely preterm babies with type Vogt IIIb oesophageal atresia, the primary operative management can be restricted to a gastrostomy and ligation of the fistula. Some of these patients, however, may not even tolerate a thoracotomy or placement on the operating table. We developed a minimally invasive procedure to prepare and ligate the oesophagus thoracoscopically and perform laparoscopic gastrostomy in a rat model. In 15 operations we observed only one complication. This study implies that after adequate practice, thoracoscopic dissection of the oesophagus with ligation of a tracheo-oesophageal fistula could be performed even in every small infants.

Notes: Abstract  The present study investigated the histologic maturation, proliferative capacity, and steroid production of fetal adrenal transplants (Tx) in adrenalectomized rats. A pair of fetal adrenal glands (18–20 days of gestation) was transplanted into the omentum of syngeneic Lewis rats (n=45). Four weeks later, in 5 animals the grafts were excised for morphologic evaluation. Proliferation was investigated by immunohistochemical staining for KI-67 protein and quantified by the proliferation index (PI = positive cells/100 counts). All other hosts (Tx; n = 40) underwent bilateral adrenalectomy (AE) to induce Addisonian crisis. Postoperatively, survival and concentrations of potassium, sodium, aldosterone, and corticosterone were recorded for 6 months. These data were compared to controls (C = only AE; n = 30) and a sham group (S; n = 10). At the end of the study period all surviving hosts were killed for histologic examination of grafts. At 4 weeks post-Tx the adrenal grafts demonstrated a distinct zona glomerulosa and frequent proliferation with a PI of 0.084, comparable to normal control (0.092). Following AE survival was significantly prolonged in Tx (86% vs 12% of C, P 〈 0.05). Control animals developed severe hyponatremia and hyperkalemia, whereas in Tx only transient signs of Addisonian crisis were recorded. Levels of aldosterone dropped within 7 days in the Tx and C groups, but returned to normal for Tx within 8 weeks. Corticosterone levels of Tx animals fell to 25% within week, but steadily increased to 70% by the end of the study. At 6 months, grafts revealed a mature adrenocortical structure with little proliferative activity, which was comparable to controls. In a syngeneic rat model fetal adrenal transplants thus mature and proliferate to provide sufficient steroid production for adrenalectomized hosts.

Notes: The mass spectral behavior of substituted 2-phenyl-1, 3-dioxolanes has been studied. In the spectra of this group of compounds the most important peak is m/e 105 for which benzoylonium structure b is proposed. Another interestingion in the mass spectra of these compounds is c. This ion is protonated benzoic acid.

Notes: New Pyrazol Derivatives. IV. Preparation and Cyclization of Some Acceptor-Substituted N-(Pyrazol-3-yl)-thioureas.3-Aminopyrazol-4-carboxylic acid derivatives (1, 2) were transformed by reaction with different isothiocyanates R2NCS to N-(pyrazol-3-yl)-N. -substituted thioureas (5,6).Ethyl 3-amino-1-benzylpyrazol-4-carboxylate reacts with CSCl2 to form ethyl 1-benzyl-3-isothiocyanatopyrazol-4-carboxylate (3) which yields with amines the corresponding N-(pyrazol-3-yl)-N. -substituted thioureas (5). As a byproduct in the reaction with CSCl2 N,N. -di-(pyrazol-3-yl)-thiourea (4) is formed. With hydrazine or phenylhydrazine N-(pyrazol-3-yl)-thiosemicarbazides (7a,b) are obtained. The thioureas (5,6) can be cyclized in basic solution to 4,5,6,7-tetrahydropyrazolo[3,4-d]pyrimidin-4-on-6-thiones (8) which on alkylation form 6-alkylthio-4,5-dihydropyrazolo[3,4-d]pyrimidin-4-ones (9). Methyl-N-(pyrazol-3-yl)-N.-benzoylisothiourea (10) reacts with ethylamine to form N-benzoyl-N. -ethyl-N‥-(pyrazol-3-yl)-guanidine derivative (11) which on treatment with NaH in dimethylformamide yields 6-benzoylamino-5-ethyl-4,5-dihydropyrazolo[3,4-d]pyrimidin-4-one (12).By treatment with sulfuric acid the N-(pyrazol-3-yl)-thiourea derivatives (5,6) form new 6-amino substituted pyrazolo[3,4-d][1,3]thiazin-4-ones (13).
