Notes: Abstract Mechanism transitions of Self-Pumped Phase Conjugation (SPPC) with wavelength and doping concentration are observed in KTN:Fe (KTa1 −x Nb x O3:Fe with x = 0.48) crystals. The SPPC mechanism in KTN: Fe (0.4 wt. %) crystal transforms from “Stimulated Photorefractive Backscattering and Four-Wave Mixing” (SPB-FWM) to “cat” (or total internal reflection) as the wavelength increases from 514.5 nm to 620 nm. SPPC at 514.5 nm is formed with the “cat” mechanism in a 0.2 wt. % doped KTN:Fe crystal, while with the SPB-FWM mechanism in a 0.4 wt. % doped one. These mechanism transitions are discussed with respect to the dependence of the backscattering gain coefficient of the crystals on wavelength and doping concentration.

Notes: Abstract It is significant to study the problems how the tetragonal and orthorhombic structures of YBa2Cu3O y generate, since the structures closely relate to superconductivity. To deal with these problems, we approach the generation of tetragonal and orthorhombicity and their morphologies by SEM, TEM, and X-ray diffraction analysis, respectively. For interpreting the experimental phenomena, we put forward a crystal growth modal: the tetragonal grows at sintering temperatures, and the tetragonal transits to orthorhombicity and forms twins along [110] faces at annealing temperatures. This model agrees with experimental results well.

Notes: Abstract Multifilament Ag-sheathed BiPbSrCaCuO (2223) superconducting tapes containing 49 filaments were fabricated by the powder-in-tube route and the roll-anneal process. The transport critical current densityJ c was 1.3×104 A cm−2 at 77 K and 7×104 A cm−2 at 4.2 K in self-field. A 12-m-long tape was used to construct superconducting solenoids (50, 28, and 14 mm internal diameters) generating dc fields 380–1070 G at 4.2 K. Measurements of the variation ofJ c with field (0–1.6 T) and bend strain (0–5%) are used to explain the performance of the solenoids. The critical bend strain of tapes was about 1.5%.
