Notes: Abstract The discharge characteristics of the XeF* (B→X) laser are investigated. The NF3 and Xe partial pressure of the laser gas mixture and the total gas pressure have been varied. A highest specific output energy of 4.7 J/l with an efficiency of 0.5% was obtained from a X-ray preionized Ne/Xe/NF3 gas mixture at 6 bar with single-pulse excitation through a multichannel spark gap.

Notes: Abstract A comprehensive experimental and theoretical study of the optimization of a continuous-wave radiofrequency (rf) excited CO2 waveguide laser is presented. The numerical simulation includes the modelling of the gas-discharge plasma parameters like the plasma impedance and energy deposition, the laser kinetics and finally the influence of the resonator feedback on the lasing process. Along with this theoretical study, an extensive experimental research program enabled us to optimize the laser performance of the CO2 waveguide laser. As a result, a total output power of 42 W and a specific output power of 1.1 W/cm were obtained.

Notes: Abstract In an x-ray preionised XeF(B→X) discharge-excited laser driven by a magnetic-spiker sustainer circuit with a magnetic pulse compressor the influence of the various parameters on the optical pulse duration was experimentally investigated. Laser pulses at λ = 351 nm with a duration of 212 ns (FWHM) have been achieved in a NF3/Xe/Ne mixture by using very low (0.25 mbar) NF3 partial pressures in a total gas pressure of 2.5 bar and with a high-reflecting output coupling mirror.

Description / Table of Contents: Summary The purpose of this work is to describe our initial clinical experience (in 66 patients) with Resovist and Eovist, two new liver-specific MR contrast agents. We focus our report on safety aspects, dose finding, and optimization of technical parameters. Both contrast agents were well tolerated and improved the detectability of focal liver lesions. With Resovist, postcontrast MRI may be started as early as 10 min following injection. The dose of 8 μmol Fe/kg bodyweight was sufficient to achieve diagnostic tumor-liver contrast levels. Since Eovist can also be administered as a bolus, dynamic enhance- ment patterns may be studied for tumor characterization as well. Breath-hold T 1-weighted FLASH images were superior to other T 1-weighted techniques with and without fat saturation.

Description / Table of Contents: Summary Mesenteric cysts are considered as a rare cause of abdominal complaints. Histologically, several specific types can be distinguished: lymphangioma, nonpancreatic pseudocyst, enteric duplication cyst, enteric cyst and mesothelial cyst. Histopathological classification and radiological findings in two cases of mesenteric cysts are presented, and, with regard to the literature, radiological appearance and differential diagnoses are discussed.
