    Notizen: Abstract PURPOSE: The biofragmentable anastomotic ring (BAR) is now accepted as an alternative anastomotic method to handsewn and stapled anastomosis in colonic surgery. However, for a short rectal stump in a narrow pelvis, it is rather difficult to use the BAR in a low anterior resection. METHOD: To overcome the difficulty, we designed and used a BAR-adapter to facilitate biofragmentable ring anastomosis following low anterior resection in eight patients with rectal cancers. RESULTS: There was no case in our series having received conversion to other methods. There was no significant complication associated with this technique. CONCLUSION: With the BAR-adapter, the applicability of the BAR can be greatly expanded in colorectal anastomosis following low anterior resection.

    Notizen: Abstract Aromatic bismaleimides (BMIs) were prepared by the condensation of malefic anhydride with multiring diamines containing ether bridges. The thermal behavior of the bismaleimides was investigated by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and thermomechanical analysis (TMA) were utilized to characterize the thermal properties of the cured resins. The effect of the structures of bismaleimides on their thermal behavior and the thermal properties of the cured resins is discussed. Increasing molecular weight between reactive endgroups lowered melting points of BMIs, leading to a large temperature range between their melting point and the initial polymerization temperature. The introduction of ether bonds together with other flexible partners to bismaleimide resins decreased the glass transition temperatures or softening temperatures and the brittleness of the cured bismaleimide resins without extreme loss of their thermal stability. The cured bismaleimides were stable up to 450°C in both air and nitrogen.

    Notizen: Summary The Boltzmann-Gibbs principle is known to be crucial in the study of the fluctuations of interacting particle systems. A new method is proposed in this paper which confirms this principle for models with gradient reversible dynamics in equilibrium. The method is simpler and can be applied to more general models than the conventional one which is developed by Brox et al. To illustrate the idea in more detail, we study the weakly asymmetric simple exclusion process of which the jump rates are slowly varying. As a consequence of the Boltzmann-Gibbs principle, the limit of the density fluctuation fields is identified as a generalized Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process. Finally, the extension to models with long range interactions is briefly discussed.

    Notizen: Abstract Rhodostomin from venom ofAgkistrodon rhodostoma (also calledCalloselasma rhodostoma) contains 68 amino acid residues including 6 pairs of disulfide bonds and an arginine-glycine-aspartic acid (RGD) sequence at positions 49–51. It has been known as one of the strongest antagonists to platelet aggregation among the family termed disintegrin. In this review paper, in addition to introducing the characteristics of disintegrin and its related molecules, the advantages of using recombinant DNA technology to produce rhodostomin are described. The recombinant rhodostomin has been demonstrated to facilitate cell adhesion via interaction between the RGD motif of rhodostomin and integrins on the cell surface. This property allowed us to use the recombinant rhodostomin as an extracellular matrix to study cell adhesion and to distinguish attachment efficiency between two melanoma cell lines B16-F1 and B16-F10, the former is a low metastasis cell while the latter is a high metastasis cell. Furthermore, by using the recombinant rhodostomin as a substrate, osteoprogenitor-like cells are able to be selected and enriched within 3 days from rat bone marrow which contains a heterogeneous cell population. Finally, we show that the recombinant rhodostomin can be immobilized on beads and which serve as an affinity column to dissect cell-surface protein(s) binding to the RGD motif of rhodostomin.
