    Notes: Abstract The vacancy formation energy of an A1(100) single crystal has been determined by both positron diffusion length and Doppler broadening measurements to beE IV f =0.63 ±0.02eV andE IV f =0.64 ± 0.04eV, respectively. Both measurements were made with a variable-energy positron beam. A brief discussion is presented comparing beam techniques with the more standard bulk positron methods.
