Notes: Abstract Spectral density functions of field emission current fluctuations were investigated by a probe hole technique for lithium adsorbates on the tungsten (112) surface plane in the sub- to double monolayer range. The dependence of the spectral density on the lithium surface concentration obtained slightly above room temperature, shows maxima and minima. A correspondence is found between the extrema of the coverage dependent spectral density, features of the work function, and the film structures occurring with different adparticle densities. Commensurate lithium structures are clearly manifest in the noise power.

Notes: Abstract The spectral density functionsW(f) of the field-emission flicker noise of potassium adsorbed on the tungsten (111) region were determined. The analysis in terms of the Gesley-Swanson or the Timm and Van der Ziel model gives surface diffusion energies between 0.54 and 0.31 eV for (average) coverages from 0.15 to 0.38 and diffusion prefactors between 3×10−1 and 10−4 cm2/s. The fitting procedures are successful for both bounded and unbounded diffusion though in opposite order of temperature, as expected.

Notes: Abstract Field-emission fluctuations of the coadsorption system W(112)Ni-K were investigated by the cross-correlation technique in two perpendicular crystallographic directions at various temperatures. In- and cross-channel movements show a considerable reduction ofτ max which is the time delay corresponding to the cross-correlation function maximum with increasing Ni coverage at a constant potassium probe concentration.τ max, its activation energy and the “signal velocity” are discussed in terms of the well-known W(112)Ni surface structure.
