Notes: Abstract The effects of He and Ar bombardment on carbon produced in a N-implanted Cr-rich steel are studied by means of conversion electron Mössbauer spectroscopy, glancing X-ray and nuclear reaction analysis techniques. The results show two main features: dissolution and reprecipitation of the produced carbonitrides and modification of the thermal behavior of the precipitates. Comparison with similar experiments performed on Fe and on low-carbon steel show that the matrix composition plays an important role in the above processes.

Notes: Abstract High yields of protoplasts from the 18-hr old mycelium of Trichoderma viride were obtained by using the lytic system, produced by Streptomyces venezuelae RA and Micromonospora chalcea grown on a synthetic medium containing laminarin and chitin, when 0.7 M MgSO4 or (NH4)2SO4 were used as osmotic stabilizers. Regeneration of these protoplasts occurred through the production of an abortive tube and direct germination of the protoplasts. Regeneration could also take place in the medium used to produce protoplasts, but the process was different in many details.

Notes: Summary Nine different monosomic additions in Beta vulgaris from Beta webbiana were characterized through morphological characters and isozyme markers. The effect of the alien chromosome on the morphology of the recipient species is chromosome specific, and nine morphotypes could be distinguished. The added chromosome caused a growth reduction in the recipient plants. Eleven isozyme systems were used as marker systems. A 6PGDH band was found as a marker for chromosome 7, which contains a resistance gene for the beet cyst nematode in monosomic additions from Beta procumbens and Beta webbiana. A difference in the 6PGDH zymogram pattern between the two species with respect to this chromosome has been noted.
