Notes: Abstract After training in a passive avoidance task, mice were detained in the safe compartment of the conditioning apparatus. This detention produced an impairment of rentention on the retest trial. Detention did not prolong the cycloheximide susceptible phase of memory formation. A summation of the amnestic effects of the two treatments occurred only at a time when both were effective alone. Cycloheximide was without effect upon the detention experience itself.

Notes: Abstract In order to study trends in smoking withdrawal symptoms, 35 participants in a smoking cessation clinic completed four questionnaires daily for 2 weeks. The questionnaire dealt with a variety of symptoms which a factor analysis showed could be grouped into four factors: stimulation, desire to smoke, and physical and psychological symptoms. Changes were observed in reports of symptoms over days. Trend analyses found that each symptom group except stimulation showed significant patterns or changes as a function of days in abstinence. These symptom clusters were all found to have U-shaped functions. In addition, desire to smoke and psychological symptoms showed linear decreases as abstinence proceeded. Light and heavy smokers were found to differ in the pattern of reported stimulation.Ss who were totally abstinent reported less severe craving overall for cigarettes than those who only reduced their cigarette consumption by an average of 60%. Also, the craving of totally abstinentSs dropped off more sharply as abstinence proceeded. The import of these patterns and trends in withdrawal symptoms as a function of time is discussed.

Notes: Summary Delay of punishment 0, 30, 60, 120 and 240 sec after the step-through response in a one trial passive avoidance task was used to obtain in mice conditioned responses of different strengths. Both cycloheximide and ECS given immediately after training had a greater amnesic effect upon the weaker conditioned responses obtained with the longer delays of punishment. A proactive effect of ECS, but not of cycloheximide, was demonstrated with the weaker conditioned responses.

Notes: Abstract Sexual harassment has been a difficult area of legal interpretation. Legal frameworks used in other areas of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act have not been used in the development of standards by which to judge on the job harassment. Specific difficulties analyzed are the status of group versus individual protection, the notion that harassment is a correctable violation, problems of defining a hostile environment and determining harm, adverse effects on third parties, harassment without sexuality, and same sex harassment. Disagreements between the Circuit Courts and the EEOC are highlighted and effects on individuals and organizations are discussed. Suggestions for organization policy are made.
