Notes: Summary The angiotensin-inactivating capacity of homogenates prepared from kidneys of rats subjected to various experimental procedures was studied. Val5-angiotensin II-Asp1-amide was incubated with renal homogenates for various times, and the half-life of the polypeptide was calculated on the basis of its pressor activity. After partial constriction of the aorta between the two renal arteries, homogenates of ischaemic kidneys inactivated angiotensin much more slowly than homogenates of control kidneys. With homogenates of contralateral, non-ischaemic kidneys, inactivation of angiotensin was only slightly reduced. Similarly, after adrenalectomy or after treatment with desoxycorticosterone and salt, a slightly diminished inactivation of angiotensin by kidney homogenates was observed. No correlation was found between the capacity to inactivate angiotensin and the renin content of the kidneys or between renal mass and the half-life of angiotensin incubated with homogenates of kidneys from rats that had undergone different experimental procedures.
