Notes: Summary This is a case report of a 41 year old male patient with a long gastric history and allergic manifestations. Partial resection of the stomach was performed, but the clinical and radiologically expected ulcer could not be found. Extensive eosinophilic infiltration and hypertrophy of the muscle-layer in the pyloric region were found instead. Based on this case history, the clinical course, and the remarcable morphological picture, the pathogenesis, differential diagnosis and the possibilities of treatment of this benign rare allergic inflammation are discussed.

Notes: The 1H and 13C spectra of endo-endo-tetracyclo[6.1.13,6.02,7]dodec-4-en-10-ol have been interpreted using shift reagents and HETCOR experiments. Carbon chemical shifts are compared with tetracyclic analogs and bicyclic model compounds. Evidence for upfield δ and ε effects of 3-5 ppm is presented.

Notes: Principal component analysis was applied to the 13C NMR chemical shifts of the seven carbon atoms of the norbornyl framework for 75 molecules. Two two-dimensional principal component projections are shown to be sufficient to distinguish the main electronic and steric substituent effects contributing to these shifts. These effects allow a comparison of the (three-, four- and five-membered) ring and non-ring substituents and their influence on the shifts of carbon atoms of the norbornyl framework. Four classes of molecules, each with characteristic chemical behaviour, are identified. Exo-endo class discrimination and exo-endo patterns of isomer pairs are emphasized, especially with regard to cyclic substituents on norbornyl systems.
