Notes:
The infrared spectra of 2,3-dimethylaniline in different phases have been recorded in the region 4000-100 cm-1. In the solid phases at 223 and 123 K, however, the spectra were recorded in the region 4000-400 cm-1 only. Raman spectra with polarization measurements have been recorded and investigated for the first time. New frequency assignments are proposed, assuming the molecule to possess an approximate Cs symmetry; 52 out of a possible 54 normal modes in the molecule have been observed and assigned, including 25 hitherto unreported modes. The observed spectral changes give evidence of a solid-solid phase transition in the molecule between 223 and 123 K and indicate the presence of intermolecular hydrogen bonding due to the presence of an amino group in the molecule.
