Notes: The Raman spectrum of [MgCl(THF)5] [FeCl4] · THF includes all four Raman-activ vibrations of the [FeCl4]- anion, thus supporting the results obtained by x-ray analysis. On the other hand, no vibration which could be assigned to the Mg—Cl bond has been observed, which may indicate that this bond is more likely to be ionic.

Notes: Raman spectra of copper and silver agyrodites containing different halides were studied. The observed spectra are very similar to those of copper and silver thiophosphates. The spectra were interpreted as resulting from internal modes of the tetrahedral thiophosphate anion, PS43-, indicating that these agyrodites can possibly be formulated as triple salts, M3PS4 · M2S · MX (M = Cu and Ag; X = Cl, Br and I), being basically ionic compounds consisting of monoatomic ions with only polyatomic one covalently bonded PS43- anion.

Notes: The Raman spectrum of the addition compound of PCl5 · UCl5 was recorded. In all, seven major lines were observed. The results were interpreted as supporting the ionic structure of PCl4+ UCl6-, the cation having a Td symmetry and the anion an Oh symmetry.

Notes: Raman and infrared spectra, including two newly reported Raman frequencies, of the hexachloroferrate anion FeCl63- are presented. Comparison of the vibrational frequencies of MCl4 and MCl6 species indicates that the stretching frequencies increase with decrease in the coordination number, whereas the bending frequencies decrease. In addition, frequencies of the Cr-N vibrations of the hexacoordinated CrN6 system of the Cr(NH3)63+ cation are also reported.

Notes: Equimolar quantities of the trihalides of antimony and bismuth were fused with trihalides of aluminium and gallium and the solid products were studied by Raman spectroscopy. The spectra were interpreted on the basis of ionic structures prevailing in all these compounds, with the general formula [M15X2]+[M13X4]- (M15=Sb and Bi; M13=Al and Ga; X=CI and Br).

Notes: Complete Raman and IR spectra were recorded for tetrabromophosphonium salts of tetrabromo-borate, -aluminate, -gallate and -indate. The compounds were prepared by precipitation from non-aqueous solvents in which the reactants were dissolved and reacted. Their vibrational spectra are interpreted on the basis of these complexes being of ionic structure of the general formula [PBr4]+[MBr4]-, both ions being tetrahedral with Td symmetry. All the expected fundamentals have been observed and assigned.

Notes: The infrared spectra of 2,3-dimethylaniline in different phases have been recorded in the region 4000-100 cm-1. In the solid phases at 223 and 123 K, however, the spectra were recorded in the region 4000-400 cm-1 only. Raman spectra with polarization measurements have been recorded and investigated for the first time. New frequency assignments are proposed, assuming the molecule to possess an approximate Cs symmetry; 52 out of a possible 54 normal modes in the molecule have been observed and assigned, including 25 hitherto unreported modes. The observed spectral changes give evidence of a solid-solid phase transition in the molecule between 223 and 123 K and indicate the presence of intermolecular hydrogen bonding due to the presence of an amino group in the molecule.

Notes: The optical and Raman spectra of several salts of croconic acid were investigated in order to obtain a better understanding of solid-state effects. The results indicate that for the sodium and barium salts the perturbations can be ascribed to a decrease in the local symmetry of the anion. On the other hand, for the thallium and silver salts the perturbations are much more dramatic, clearly indicating the presence of charge-transfer effects. For the silver salt, the abnormal enhancement in the Raman spectrum is ascribed to the presence of silver microparticles in the surface of the solid.
