Abstract The adynamic, ptotic, hypothermic and conditioned avoidance response blocking effects of reserpine were studied in normal rats and in rats subjected to electroconvulsions for 5 days. Prior exposure to electroconvulsions blocked only the hypothermic response of reserpine. The relevance of this observation to the screening of antidepressant drugs by studying the reserpine antagonism is discussed.
