Description / Table of Contents: Summary Chronic testicular pain represents a challenging urological chronic pain syndrom in terms of adequate diagnosis and therapy. Reported success rates of 55–73 % and 10–40 % of conservative and surgical interventions are extremely low. We report on microsurgical testicular denervation as therapeutic option in patients with chronic testicular pain (CTP). 12 consecutive patients with CTP were included in our study. After complete diagnostic workup and positive response to testicular nerve blockade, all patients underwent surgery: the cremasteric muscle was dissected by electrocautery, the periadventitial layer of the testicular artery was dissected over a length of 2–3 cm. After a median follow-up of 20.6 months (4–62) 11/12 patients (92 %) are pain free. None of the patients suffered from intraa- or postoperative complications. Based on our experience microsurgical testicular denervation should be performed in patients with CTP and no underlying organic disease. However, the high success rate of our surgical procedure can only be maintained if the selection of suitable patients is performed very carefully and a specific organic origin of CTP has been excluded prior to surgery.

Notes: Abstract The prevalence, persistence, incidence and remission rates of reported diagnosed asthma and chronic bronchitis has been studied longitudinally over ten years in a representative community sample of children and adolescents. The objectives are to evaluate the rates of change over time, the role of family history of disease, and the social risk factors in the longitudinal course of disease. The relationship between the two reported diagnoses is very high, about half of each group having the other diagnosis. Each diagnosis has specific symptoms with which it is associated. Remission of clinical disease is associated with continuing symptoms in about half of such cases. The incidence rates and remissions of cases as they have occurred over time were associated with different symptoms and risk factors. A family history of lung disease and family social characteristics are significant risk factors affecting the presence of these diseases, and how they change. Discussion suggests these factors may affect possible precursors, such as lower respiratory tract illnesses, as well as personal habits (such as smoking), which are related to both diagnoses. Further, the interactions of these risk factors appear to significantly influence impairments of lung function at the beginning of adult life, and potential subsequent disease.

Description / Table of Contents: Summary A new procedure is proposed for the photometric determination of molybdenum in iron and steels using thiocyanate and tin(II) chloride solution [in glycerol-ethannol (3∶1) or in diethylenglycol] as a reducer and extraction with n-butyl acetate. Beer's law is obeyed between 0.2 and 80 μg Mo/ml. The minimum photometric error is 3.2%, the molar absorptivity is 15640 at 470 nm and the best concentration range for determination is between 0.6 and 6 μg Mo/ml.
