Notes: Abstract A model for simple fluids is proposed in which the radial distribution function has a parametric form appropriate to a soft-core fluid for interparticle separationr ⩽ R, whereR is some range parameter. Forr 〉 R, the direct correlation function is assumed to be of Yukawa form. The Ornstein-Zernike equation is solved for this system, yielding the radial distribution and the total correlation function for the entire range of interparticle separation. Methods of relating the model fluid to a real fluid by assigning values to the parameters are discussed.

Notes: Abstract This paper considers a strip of two-dimensional one-component plasma of particles of chargeq at a temperatureT such that the coupling constant be Γ=q2/kBT = 2. The strip is of finite width and infinite length and bears charge densities on either edge. Inside the strip and on one side, the dielectric constant is 1; on the other side of the strip, it may be either 1 or 0 (in the latter case, image forces play an important role). The free energy as well as the one-particle and two-particle distribution functions can be exactly computed. They obey a variety of sum rules reflecting the Coulombic behavior of the system. At large separations the truncated two-particle distribution function behaves with algebraically decaying oscillations. The strip of finite width in fact is correlated along the strip much as a one-dimensional system is correlated.

Notes: Abstract A model of a binary mixture, showing a wetting transition, is examined. No prewetting phenomena are found. The scaling functions are obtained for the film thickness and for the correlation lengths.

Notes: Abstract Studies of the mean spherical model with Coulomb interactions are continued, by considering a system on ad-dimensional lattice which is periodic ind−1 dimensions and has a free surface in the remaining dimension. It is shown explicitly that correlations along the free surface decay asy −d ind dimensions and show that the surface properties of this model are those expected for a charged system in its plasma phase.
