Notes: Abstract A 6-plate element for isocaloric recording of cutaneous blood flow is described. Co-heating, penetrating depth and influence of a larger vessel simulated in a model were examined. The 6-plate element is less influenced by inhomogenous and anisotropic blood flow than the conventional 2-plate element and thus particularly suitable for routine measurements and repeated applications.

Description / Table of Contents: Summary Static discharge frequencies of 72 single or few cold fibre preparations from the lingual nerve of the cat were measured as a function of constant temperatures of the tongue. The average maximum discharge was at ca. 27°C. At 10 and 40°C some cold receptors were still firing continuously.

Description / Table of Contents: Summary Static discharge frequencies of 32 single cold fibres from the cat's infraorbital nerve were recorded as a function of constant temperatures of the external nasal region. The average maximum was 9 impulses/sec at 27° C. At 17° C all cold fibres were still active, whereas at 41° C only a few were firing continuously. Our results are nearly identical with those from the cat's lingual nerve and, with respect to the temperature of the static maximum, in general agreement with the behaviour of cutaneous cold receptors in other species and other cutaneous regions.
