Description / Table of Contents:
Reactions with Organophosphonic Compounds, XLIII. - Behaviour of (2-Acylvinyl)-phosphonium Salts toward Stabilized S-YlidesThe vinylphosphonium salts 1, [(C6H5)3P⊕-CH=CH-Y]Br⊖ in which Y is an electron attracting substituent (COR, CN or COOCH3), can be transformed in fairly good yields with the S-ylide 2, of type (CH3)2S⊕-⊖CH-X (X = COC6H5, COOC2H5 and CN), into the corresponding cyclopropylphosphonium salts 3 as a mixture of stereoisomeric species. Treatment of 3 with alkali affords triphenylphosphine oxide and a mixture of cis- and trans-disubstituted cyclopropane derivatives 4 or 5, respectively, in which the cis-isomeric compound 4 predominates.
Notes:
