Organic peroxides are widely used today, and yet their properties and the procedures for their safe handling remain a mystery to many. After many years of hard work, the fog lifted considerably with the adoption, in 1986, of NFPA, 43B Code “Storage and Handling of Organic Peroxide Formulations [1]. A U.N. committee is also making a contribution by developing recommendations for the worldwide transport of organic peroxides [2]. This has had a secondary benefit in providing a forum for comparing and evaluating test methods and classifications worldwide. However, there is still much to be done.
