Notes:
This paper presents a test method, by modification of ASTM D 1790, to follow the changes in brittleness temperature Tb of plasticized PVC during weathering and to produce a profile of the changes in a composition. It may also be used to measure the change in brittleness temperature at the end of a specific weather test. Few and small specimens are used to avoid the exposure of prohibitively large sheets that otherwise would be required and to make short the unacceptably long time otherwise demanded. It therefore makes programs practical that involve many formulations aimed at superior performance. It gives greater confidence than mere visual and tactile observations that a given compounding ingredient or a total composition can or cannot do the job that is required of it.
