    Notizen: Abstract  The coding region of the eighth largest segment (S8) of the rice dwarf virus (RDV) was obtained from a RDV Fujian isolate. It was then cloned into pTrcHisA for expression in E. coli and into vector pE3 for plant transformation. By using callus derived from mature rice embryos as the target tissue, we obtained regenerated rice plants after bombardment of the former with plasmid pE3R8 containing the RDV S8 gene and the marker gene neomycin phosphotransferase (NPT II). Southern blotting confirmed the integration of the RDV S8 gene into the rice genome. The expression of the outer coat protein in both E. coli and rice plants was confirmed by western blotting. The recovery of transgenic rice plants expressing S8 gene is an important step towards studying the function of the RDV genes and obtaining RDV-resistant rice plants.

    Notizen: Summary 2,6-Pyridinedicarboxylic acid (2,6-PDC) was investigated as an eluent for ion chromatographic (IC) separation of inorganic anions, Mg2+ and Ca2+ followed by UV and conductivity detection. Other eluents containing trimesic, pyromellitic and commonly used gluconate/borate were also studied. Eluents containing 2, 6-PDC gave reasonable resolution and detection sensitivity for all analytes of interest. The effects of eluent pH and concentration of 2,6-PDC on the retention and sensitivity were investigated systematically. The separation and detection of HCO3 −, H2PO4 −, Cl−, NO2 −, NO3 −, SO4 −, Mg2+ and Ca2+ within 11 minutes were performed using 1 mM 2,6-PDC at pH 6.0. Detection limits were in the range 5–15 μM for UV detection and 1.5–4 μM for conductivity detection. The proposed method offers a quick, sensitive and simple means for the determination of common anions, Mg2+ and Ca2+ particulaly in water samples.

    Notizen: Abstract We propose an algorithm for multistage stochastic linear programs with recourse where random quantities in different stages are independent. The algorithm approximates successively expected recourse functions by building up valid cutting planes to support these functions from below. In each iteration, for the expected recourse function in each stage, one cutting plane is generated using the dual extreme points of the next-stage problem that have been found so far. We prove that the algorithm is convergent with probability one.

    Notizen: The trisodium salt of 2-(4-sulphophenylazo)-1,8-dihydroxynaphthalene-3,6-disulphonic acid (SPADNS) was studied by Raman and surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) techniques. The Raman spectra of SPADNS powder and aqueous solution were investigated and an assignment of the Raman bands was made taking into account its infrared absorpiton spectrum. SPADNS tatomers, o-hydroxyazo and o-quinone hydrazone, are also discussed. Although the assignment is still preliminary owing to the complex structure of the SPADNS molecule, it provides useful information for SERS investigations of SPADNS in aqueous silver sol and on silve film. The results of SERS are compared with those of visible absorption spectra and x-ray photoelectron spectra (XPS) and the adsorption configuration of the SPADNS molecule on a silver surface is considered.
