Notes: Abstract Nitrosyl derivatives of polyoxomolybdates have been synthesized and characterized by X-ray diffraction. Most of them contain the MoII(NO)3+ unit and their structures are related to the following structural types: Lindqvist, Keggin and decatungstate [W10O32]4−. Reductive nitrosylation of (NBu4)4[α-Mo8O26] by hydroxylamine in methanol yields (NBu4)2[Mo5O13(OMe)4(NO){Na(MeOH)}]. 3MeOH, which is a versatile reagent yielding a variety of derivatives (i) by the transformation of [Mo5O13(OMe)4(NO)]3− into [Mo6O18(NO)]3− in acetonitrile, (ii) by the formation of [PMo12O39(NO)]4− by reaction of [Mo5O13(OMe)4(NO)]3− with [PMO12O40]3− in basic condition and (iii) by the formation of mixed valence MoVI/MoV/MoII decamolybdates [Mo10O24(OMe)7(NO)]2−, [Mo10O25(OMe)6(NO)]− and [Mo10O20(OMe)9(NO)3]2− by chemical reduction of [Mo5O13(OMe)4(NO)]3−; MoII is localized while MoV are delocalized in the first two species but localized in the third. The unique ligating properties of [Mo5O13(OMe)4(NO)]3− have been documented: this species acts as a tetradentate ligand in [Ce{Mo5O13(OMe)4(NO)}2]2−, a symmetrically tetraligating ligand in [Rh2Cp*2(μ-Br){μ-Mo5O13(OMe)4(NO)}] and a bidentate ligand in [Mo5O13(OMe)4(NO){RhCp*(H2O)}]−. Some polyoxomolybdates of the type [Mo5(NO)2O12{RC(NH2)NHO}2{RC(NH)NO}2]2−, which contain the Mo0(NO) 2 2+ unit, have also been characterized.

Notes: Abstract The Asthma Quality of Life Questionnaire (AQLQ) is a well-validated instrument. Our objectives were to explore the cross-sectional validity of the French version, using usual outcomes of asthma, as well as assessment of knowledge of asthma, self-management and compliance. A self-administered version of the AQLQ was given to 124 consecutive patients recruited from two out-patient clinics and an emergency room in order to reflect a wide range of asthma severity. The other outcomes of asthma measured were the FEV1, patient-perceived asthma severity using a visual analogue scale, compliance, knowledge of asthma condition and self-management autonomy. Correlations were predicted before analysis (+++ r 〉 0.5, strong correlation, ++ r = 0.35–0.5, moderate correlation and + r = 0.20–0.35, fair correlation). The AQLQ scores correlated moderately to strongly with asthma severity and fairly with the pulmonary function results. Of the behavioural outcomes assessed, only knowledge of asthma correlated fairly with the AQLQ scores, as expected. This study of the French version of the AQLQ, while showing similar cross-sectional correlations with functional assessment and asthma severity to those observed with the original English version, suggested in addition a positive association between quality of life and knowledge of asthma.

Description / Table of Contents: Neue Perspektiven in der Polyoxometallatchemie durch Isolierung von Verbindungen mit sehr großen übertragbaren Baueinheiten: (NMe4)5[As2Mo8V4AsO40] · 3H2O, (NH4)21[H3Mo57V6(NO)6O183(H2O)18] · 65 H2O, (NH2Me2)18(NH4)6[Mo57V6(NO)6O183(H2O)18] · 14 H2O und (NH4)12[Mo36(NO)4O108(H2O)16] · 33 H2ODie Verbindungen (NMe4)5[As2Mo8V4AsO40] · 3 H2O 2a, (NH4)21[H3Mo57V6(NO)6O183(H2O)18] · 65 H2O 3a, (NH2Me2)18(NH4)6[Mo57V6(NO)6O183(H2O)18] · 14 H2O 3b und (NH4)12[Mo36(NO)4O108(H2O)16] · 33 H2O 4a (3a und 4a sind in der Literatur bezüglich ihrer Zusammensetzung, Strukturen und der Oxidationszustände der Metallzentren nicht korrekt beschrieben worden), die zum Teil extrem große isolierte anionische Spezies enthalten, wurden dargestellt (darunter 3a, 3b und 4a in relativ hoher Ausbeute) und durch vollständige Kristallstrukturanalyse sowie durch IR-/Raman-, UV/VIS/NIR- und ESR-spektroskopische Methoden sowie mit Hilfe von vorläufigen magnetischen Suszeptibiltätsmessungen, Redoxtitrationen, Bindungsvalenzsummierungen, Elementaranalysen und thermogravimetrischen Studien charakterisiert.
Notes: The compounds (NMe4)5[As2Mo8V4AsO40] · 3 H2O 2a, (NH4)21[H3Mo57V6(NO)6O183(H2O)18] · 65 H2O 3a, (NH2Me2)18(NH4)6[Mo57V6(NO)6O183(H2O)18] · 14 H2O 3b and (NH4)12[Mo36(NO)4O108(H2O)16] · 33 H2O 4a (3a and 4a were not correctly reported in the literature regarding to their composition, structures and the oxidation states of the metal centres) which contain large isolated anionic species, have been prepared (among them 3a, 3b, and 4a in rather high yield) and characterized by complete crystal structure analysis as well as IR/Raman, UV/VIS/NIR, ESR spectroscopy and magnetic susceptibility measurements, redox titrations, bond valence sum calculations, elemental analyses and thermogravimetric studies. Perspectives for polyoxometalate chemistry referring to the synthesis of “extremely” large nanoscaled species are discussed, together with the occurrence of a large transferable {Mo17} building block in the compounds 3a, 3b and 4a which also exists in the corresponding iron compound Na3(NH4)12[H15Mo57Fe6(NO)6O183(H2O)18] · 76 H2O 7a.
