Description / Table of Contents: Magnetic Behaviour of Cerium (III) Compounds: Crystal Field Effects in LiCeO2The magnetic susceptibility of LiCeO2 (monoclinic, space group P121/c1) was measured between 3.8 and 295 K. Large deviations from Curie-Weiss behaviour but no points of magnetic ordering were observed. Model calculations, based on an idealized anion surrounding of the cerium atoms (point symmetry C2v) showed, that the magnetic properties can be explained by crystal field splitting in the 2F5/2 ground term of Ce3+. The crystal field parameters determined by fitting procedures agree satisfactorily with a simple point charge model.
