    Description / Table of Contents: Leakage of Steel tubes of austenitic steel because of stress corrosion crackingA steel tubes in which an electrolytes containing 207 kg/m3 ammonium chloride has been flowing showed some leakages after an unknown time of operation. The metallo-graphic investigation revealed in the vicinity of the weld seam transcrystalline cracks which are characteristic of stress corrosion cracking. In the basis of the investigation the author arrives at the conclusion that the corrosion is due to the chlorides in solution in connection with weld and deformation stresses. It is suggested to use less suscep tible steel e.g. a ferritic CrMo steel with low carbon content.
    Notes: Eine von einem Elektrolyten mit 207 kg/m3 Ammoniumchlorid durchflossene Rohrleitung zeigte nach unbekannter Betriebsdauer Leckagen. Die metallographische Untersuchung ergab in der Nähe der Schweißnaht die für Spannungsrißkorrosion charakteristischen transkristallinen Risse. Aufgrund der Untersuchung gelangt man zu dem Schluß daß die Korrosion durch die in der Lösung vorhandenen Chloride in Verbindung mit Schweiß- und Verformungsspannungen hervorgerufen wurde. Es wird vorgeschlagen, einen weniger empfindlichen Stahl zu verwenden, z. B. einen ferritischen CrMo-Stahl mit niedrigem Kohlenstoffgehalt.
