Notes: A series of radicals formed when a fast beam of deuterated ions, [DCO] +, [DOCO] +, [CD3OD2]+ and [(CD) 2COD] +, is neutralized by electron transfer from K. Na and Zn atoms has been studied by a combination of charge stripping and beam scattering techniques For all systems studied, some fraction of The radicals from charge exchange are formed in excited dissociative states. Radical decomposition products have been identified and fragmentation energies have been measured. A metastable slate of CD3GD2 is observed with a lifetime greater than 0.5 μs. Stable radicals of DCO and (CD3)2 COD are formed by ion-Zn charge exchange. Indirect evidence indicates that [DCO] +-K charge exchang; leads to an excited radiative state of the radical.

Notes: Proton NMR spectra are reported for 15N enriched borazine and a series of 15N enriched derivatives: N-methyl-borazine, N,N′-dimethylborazine and a new photochemical product, 1-methyl-2-aminoborazine. Chemical shifts for the ring (15N—H) protons have been measured. Using a Fourier transform spectrometer, fine structure in the 15N—H doublet is resolved. Ortho and meta ring proton and three-bond 15N to H coupling constants have been determined. Substituent effects on chemical shifts and coupling constants for borazine derivatives are compared with those for analogous benzene derivatives.

Notes: A combination of charge-stripping and beam-scattering techniques has been used to study the molecular states formed when a fast beam of [C2H2]+ and [C2H3]+ in several isotopic forms are neutralized by electron transfer from metal target atoms (K, Na, Mg and Zn). For [C2H3]+ the isotopic compositions and relative abundances of product states were found to be insensitive to the method of ion preparation (electron impact and chemical ionization). Ground state neutrals are formed in partial abundance when Mg or Zn is used as a target atom. With low ionization potential targets (K and Na) excitel dissociative states of C2H2 and C2H3 are formed as major beam constituents. For these states decomposition products have been identified and fragmentation energies measured. The excited states of C2H2 and C2H3 lie alout 6.8 eV and 2.9 eV, respectively, above their stable ground states. The discussion focuses on the possible identity of the excited states and their structural relations to the precursor ions.

Notes: Raman spectra of NH4X (X = Cl, Br, I) in the range 2800-3200 cm-1 have been obtained at pressures up to 40 GPa at room temperature. The pressure dependences of the n̈1 and n̈3 modes are discussed in relation to hydrogen bonding effects in the crystals. The Raman spectra of ammonium halides show that the n̈3 mode merges to the v1 mode at pressures above 22.5 GPa in NH4Cl, 33.5 GPa in NH4Br and 35 GPa in NH4I.
