Notes: Isolation and Identification of two Mono-C-glucosyl-luteolins and of the Di-C-substituted 6,8-Diglucosyl-luteolin from the Leavy Stalks of Passiflora incarnata L.The present work on Passiflora incarnata presents the isolation and the structural identification of C-glycosylluteolins, i.e. of orientin (1), homoorientin (2) and lucenin 2 (3). The latter compound is new for this plant.

Notes: The negative and positive ion fast atom bombardment mass (FAB) spectra and fast atom bombardment mass-analysed ion kinetic energy/collision-activated dissociation (MIKE/CAD) spectra of triterpenic saponins (triterpenic glycosides) are reported. That ionization technique is well suited to the analysis of natural mixtures of these compounds. Identification and sugar sequences can be obtained from the conventional MIKE and MIKE/CAD spectra. It is shown that the negative FAB mass spectra with polyethylene glycol 200 as the matrix give more information than positive spectra for this family of compounds. The negative ion FAB mass spectra show intense deprotonated molecular peaks [M - H]- which shift to [M + Cl]- in a polyethylene glycol 200/NH4Cl matrix. The positive ion FAB mass spectrometry with glycerol/NaCl as a matrix gives spectra characterized by an enhanced sodium cationized molecular ion [M + Na]+.
