Notes:
Inelastic scattering of light has been used to study the magnetic excitations in antiferromagnetic FeF2 crystals disordered in two ways. In the first the magnetic dilute system Fe1-xZnxF2 is investigated as a function of the concentration x and temperature T, with x varying from zero nearly up to the percolation limit xp = 0.76. The other is the mixed system Fe1-xMnxF2 in the limit of small Mn impurity concentrations. In this case an anomalously large scattering by the impurity associated local modes is observed. The behaviour of the excitations in both magnetic systems is explained satisfactorily by simple theoretical models.
