Notes: It is shown that ion pair-ion pair interactions can be utilized to achieve miscibility in blends of urethanes with styrene ionomers. The urethanes contain quaternary ammonium salts in the hard segments, while the styrenes contain sodium methacrylate groups (∼9.6 mol %). By contrast, ion-dipole interactions are not strong enough to achieve miscibility enhancement; a polyurethane containing short (ethylene oxide) sequences in the hard segment did not exhibit miscibility with a styrene-lithium methacrylate copolymer.

Notes: The uretane elastomers cross-linked by the varying content of triethanolamine and 3-bromine-1,2-propanediol have been investigated by means of dielectric spectroscopy. The complex character of the glass-rubber transition has been determined. It results from different mechanisms of cross-linking (urethane and ionic bonds). The influence of content of cross-linking mixture on the microphase separation has been observed.

Notes: Blends were prepared from two kinds of urethane elastomers, containing 1,4-butanediol or 3,3′-dichloro-4,4′-diamino-diphenyl-methane as chain extenders, with lightly sulfonated polystyrenes. Dynamic mechanical studies show that strong interactions occur between the sulfonic acid and the urethane or urea moieties on the polyurethane chains. These strong interactions are clearly seen in the composition dependence of the loss tangent peaks (due to the glass transitions) for both the high temperature and the low temperature glass transitions of the blends. They are further confirmed by model studies.

Notes: It is shown that polyurethanes containing polyether segments of MW = 1000 or 2000 are miscible with styrene ionomers. The soft segment interacts with the ionomer via ion - dipole interactions, but some of the hard segments containing ether moieties are also incorporated into the polystyrene.

Notes: Investigations on sulphur cured urethane elastomers synthesized from poly(ethylene-propylene) adipate, α-allyl glycerin ether and toluene diisocyanate are described. Synthesis of elastomers was conducted at various temperatures and times with and without zinc chloride as catalyst and activator of sulphur vulcanization. The experiments revealed a combined effect of zinc chloride, temperature and time of synthesis on plasticity and processing properties of the elastomers and on mechanical properties of the vulcanizates.

Notes: The solution conformations of 1-benzyl-5,5-diphenyl-2,4-dioxo-3-imidazolidineacetic acid (AC) and 3-(2,4-dichlorobenzyl)-5,5-diphenyl-2,4-dioxo-1-imidazolidine acetic acid (AD) were studied by proton and carbon NMR spectroscopy. The two drugs have different pharmacological activities, AC having anticonvulsant and AD having antidepressant but no anticonvulsant properties. The relative orientations of the hydantoin ring substituents were investigated and are discussed in terms of amphipathic distribution of polar and apolar domains.
