Description / Table of Contents:
Notes:
Abstract A mixture of chloric acid and nitric acid makes quick and easy decomposition of many organic substances possible. When the decomposition time and temperature are chosen correctly no losses occur in the volatile elements arsenic, cadmium, mercury, and iodine. The optimum decomposition temperature is 130°C. The decomposition time varies between 70 and 90 min according to the specimens tested. In the present paper the decomposition was performed in disposable 10 ml glass vials. 4 ml of the chloric acid-nitric acid mixture suffice for the decomposition of between 70 and 400 mg of substance depending on the composition of the specimens tested.
