Abstract A case of intraoperative internal jugular vein catheter embolization in a patient undergoing median sternotomy for open-heart surgery is described. This complication suggests that right sided cannulation of the internal jugular vein is to be preferred in all patients having a median sternotomy in order to avoid the risk of intersection by median sternotomy.
