Notizen: Abstract Edmonds and Giles introduced the class of box totally dual integral polyhedra as a generalization of submodular flow polyhedra. In this paper a geometric characterization of these polyhedra is given. This geometric result is used to show that each TDI defining system for a box TDI polyhedron is in fact a box TDI system, that the class of box TDI polyhedra is in co-NP and is closed under taking projections and dominants, that the class of box perfect graphs is in co-NP, and a result of Edmonds and Giles which is related to the facets of box TDI polyhdera.

Notizen: Abstract Following Chvátal, cutting planes may be viewed as a proof system for establishing that a given system of linear inequalities has no integral solution. We show that such proofs may be carried out in polynomial workspace.

Notizen: Abstract We have isolated and characterized two nuclear mutations which affect plastoquinone accumulation in maize. The mutations, hcf103 and hcf114, modify the same genetic locus. Plants homozygous for either mutant allele exhibit reduced PS II electron transport activity, reduced variable chlorophyll fluorescence and reduced delayed fluorescence yield. In these ways, hcf103 and hcf114 resemble previously described PS II mutants which lack stably assembled PS II reaction center complexes. However, unlike most previously described PS II mutants, hcf103 and hcf114 possess stable membrane-associated PS II complexes. Plastoquinone (PQ-9), which performs a variety of redox functions essential to normal non-cyclic electron transport, is severely depleted in the mutants. The lack of PS II electron transport activity is attributed to the absence of PQ-9. This is the first report of mutants deficient in PQ which do not also suffer serious pleiotropic defects.

Notizen: Body oriented co-ordinates are defined for three-dimensional regions bounded by six surfaces. From this definition of body oriented co-ordinates, two transformations are derived: 1Body oriented surface co-ordinates to the Cartesian co-ordinates, and2Body oriented co-ordinates for a three-dimensional region to Cartesian co-ordinates.With these transformations a mesh generator is developed based on the principle that the mesh required to describe a region will be calculated according to the placement of the discrete points that describe the boundary edges. This is accomplished with two versions of the mesh generator: the surface generator and the volume generator. The surface generator maps the four boundaries of the surface onto the four boundaries of a unit square. Next, the interior points for the surface mesh are established in the mapped space. Then, using the first transformation, the co-ordinates for the surface nodal points are calculated. Similarly, the volume generator maps the six surfaces of the body onto the surfaces of a unit cube, establishes the interior nodal points in the mapped space, and using the second transformation, calculates the co-ordinates for the interior nodal points.
