    Notes: A unified method for obtaining explicit approximate solution schemes for dynamic problems is presented. These schemes are based on the theory of semigroups of operators and can furnish approximate solutions which have an arbitrarily small truncation error. The physical problem considered is that of elastodynamics although the method is clearly not limited to this setting.

    Notes: This paper deals with the numerical solution of wave propagation problems in general although the primary area of interest is elastodynamics. The work is applicable to a variety of wave propagation phenomena of classical physics. Explicit schemes of Strang type are used, which allow many simplifications over existing methods. The Strang schemes allow in a very real but perhaps unexpected way the splitting of the elasticity operator.
