Notes:
Summary Blood folic acid levels of 44 epileptic patients being treated with phenytoin were evaluated. Many patients had lowered FA levels but no significant correlation could be shown between the daily dosage of the drug and the vitamin level in the blood. It would therefore seem that the depression of folic acid levels in patients on anticonvulsants depends on individual factors and perhaps duration of treatment rather than being a toxic, dose-dependent response.
