Notes:
Summary Within a period of 13 years focal nodular hyperplasia (FNH) was found in 2 men and 17 women; 15 women had a history of contraceptive use. The reason for hospital admission was vague abdominal discomfort in five hepatomegaly and cholecystolithiasis in four each, hepatitis in three, achalasia, sterility and increased sedimentation rate in one each. The FNH was found incidentally in ten patients at laparoscopy, in five at laparotomy and was detected in two patients each by CT and sonography. The nodules (1–15 cm in diameter) were extirpated in 18 patients. Recurrence and tumor growth have not yet been observed.
