    Notes: Monotelodisomics of chromosome arms 2RL and 6RL were observed in progenies of rye trisomics. The monotelodisomic of chromosome arm 6RL (2n = 13 + 6RL) is vital and is well transmitted through the pollen. In the progeny of monotelodisomic 2RL. (2n = 13 + 2RL) no monotelodisomic but one monotelotrisomic of chromosome arm 2RS (2n = 14 + 2RS), one trisomic with an aberrant chromosome consisting (if chromosome arm IRS and a part of chromosome arm 2RL (2n = 14 + 2RSL) and one double telotrisomic of chromosome 2R (2n = 13 + 2RS + 2RL) have been identified.

    Notes: A rye-cytoplasmic tetraploid triticale was found in Fs progenies of crosses between tetraploid rye‘No 1323’and hexaploid triticale‘KT 77′. In the tetraploid triticale, two complete rye genomes and two mixed wheat genomes, consisting of the chromosomes 1A. 2A, 4A, 7A, 3B, 5B, and 6B are present. The rye cytoplasm did not affect stability of rye chromosome pairing during metaphase 1, since rye chromosomes participated in pairing irregularities just as did wheat chramosomes, even on a larger scale. The fertility of F0, plants ranged from 0 to 75.6 %, always associated with high grain shrivelling. The analyzed pairing behaviour of induced triploid hybrids from crosses between the tetraploid triticale and diploid rye indicates the presence of at least one wheat-rye translocation in one of the investigated triploid plants.

    Notes: The original identification of the chromosomes involved in each of the lines of the act of primary trisomics of winter rye variety ‘Esto’ does not correspond with recent results of gene localization studies. Using known morphological marker genes, N-banding and test crossing with the standard translocation tester set, a more precise identification was possible. In the nomenclature of the Triticinae, the lines can be designated as follows: A = 7R; B = 5R; C = 2R; D = 3R; E = 4R; F = 6R; G = 1R.

    Notes: Summary The genetics and relationships between the genes in rye located in the nucleus and cytoplasm of the male sterility of the G-type were investigated. A factor inducing male sterility was found in the cytoplasms or rye cv Schlägler alt and rye cv Norddeutscher Champagner. Monogenic inheritance was observed in linkage tests. Using primary trisomies of rye cv Esto, the nuclear gene ms1 was found to be located on chromosome 4R. Modifying genes, probably masked in normal cytoplasm but expressed in male-sterility-inducing cytoplasm together with gene ms1, were located on chromosomes 3R (ms2) and 6R (ms3). Mono-, di-, and trigenic inheritance types were found in backcross progenies of trisomies.

    Notes: Abstract  An population was established for mapping the two dominant genes for dwarfness (Ddw1) and hairy peduncle (Hp) on chromosome 5R. The location of both genes was shown to be on the segment of chromosome 5RL which was ancestrally translocated and is homoeologous to Triticeae 4L. Hp co-segregated with the wheat gDNA probe WG199, localised in wheat on chromosomes 5AL, 4BL and 4DL. No segregation was observed between the traits hairy peduncle and hairy leaf sheath. The locus for Ddw1 was found to map distally to Hp/Xwg199 but proximal to the isozyme marker β-amy-R1. The genetical distances were 5.6 cM between Hp/Xwg199 and Ddw1 and 11.5 cM between Ddw1 and β-amy-R1, respectively. The map position of Ddw1 suggests that it is homoeologous to the wheat dominant dwarfing gene Rht12, present on chromosome 5AL and linked to β-amy-A1.

    Notes: Summary Mitochondrial (mt) DNA of a new type of rye cytoplasm (‘Gülzow’, G) that induces cytoplasmic male sterility (CMS) was analyzed and compared with rye mtDNAs of different origins MtDNA of the G type was easily distinguishable from mtDNA of another CMS source, ‘Pampa’ (P) type, and from mtDNA of fertile lines with respect to restriction fragment patterns and hybridization with mitochondrial genes. The results of the molecular analyses indicate a close, but not identical relationship between the mtDNA of the G type cytoplasm and that of cv ‘Pluto’.

    Notes: Abstract Interspecific hybridisations between Hordeum vulgare L. (cultivated barley) and H. bulbosum L. (bulbous barley grass) have been carried out to transfer desirable traits, such as disease resistance, from the wild species into barley. In this paper we report the results of an extensive backcrossing programme of triploid hybrids (H. vulgare 2x x H. bulbosum 4x) to two cultivars of H. vulgare. Progenies were characterised cytologically and by restriction fragment length polymorphism analysis and comprised (1) haploid and diploid H. vulgare plants, (2) hybrids and aneuploids, (3) single and double monosomic substitutions of H. bulbosum chromosomes into H. vulgare and (4) chromosomal rearrangements and recombinants. Five out of the seven possible single monosomic chromosome substitutions have now been identified amongst backcross progeny and will be valuable for directed gene introgression and genome homoeology studies. The presence amongst progeny of 1 plant with an H. vulgare-H. bulbosum translocated chromosome and one recombinant indicates the value of fertile triploid hybrids for interspecific gene introgression.
