Notes: Abstract A simple, portable, inexpensive trichometer has been designed for accurate measurement of hair length. The sensitivity of this instrument is 0·2 mm. A high degree of reproducibility is attained irrespective of whether used repeatedly by the same observer or by different observers. The mean coefficient of variation for the method is 5·9%. The instrument has been used effectively to assess objectively the rate of hair growth in hirsute females.
