Description / Table of Contents:
Notes:
Summary During a bladder instillation procedure, 1.000 ml of a 3% boric acid solution was inadvertently instilled into the connective tissue of the pelvis, of which only approximately one-half returned. The comatous patient died 3 days later in cardiovascular collapse. Histologically, severe, acute damage to the renal tubular epithelial cells was found. The boric acid content of the various organs was determined. A preferential affinity to any specific organ was not observed. In agreement with other cases cited in the literature, the pre-existing kidney damage seemed to play an important part in the lethal outcome of this case.
