    Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung Bei 48 Frauen nach Hysterektomie im Alter von 28–43 Jahren wurden 5–10 Jahre später Plasmabestimmungen von FSH, LH, Östradiol-17β und Progesteron durchgeführt. Zum Vergleich diente eine Gruppe prämenopausaler Frauen mit fluktuierender FSH-Erhöhung und eine weitere mit stabilem Hypergonadotropismus. Es wurde festgestellt, daß nach Hysterektomie bei den Frauen unter 40 Jahren stets, zwischen 41 und 45 Jahren in drei Viertel und mit mehr als 46 Jahren in der Hälfte eine normogonadotrope und normosteroidale Ovarialfunktion vorlag. Die Frauen mit fluktuierendem oder stabilem Hypergonadotropismus waren jedoch nach Hysterektomie durchschnittlich um 2 Jahre jünger als die prämenopausalen Frauen mit entsprechender Ovarialfunktion. Eine gewisse zeitliche Vorverlegung von nachweisbaren Kriterien einer definitiven Ovarialinsuffizienz war bei einem Teil der Frauen damit nicht auszuschließen.
    Notes: Summary Plasma-FSH, -LH, -Estradiol-17β, and -Progesterone were determined weekly in women aged between 28 and 43 years who had been hysterectomized 5–10 years before. The endocrine parameters were compared with those of women with a normal cycle and two groups of premenopausal women, the one showing a fixed hypergonadotropic state, the other slightly elevated but still cyclic fluctuations of FSH and normal LH values. After hysterectomy, normal ovulatory cycles were found in all women of up to 40 years, in 75% of those between 41 and 45 years and in 50% of those beyond 46 years. The average age of women with fluctuating or fixed hypergonadotropism was 2 years less in the hysterectomiced group. Thus, a certain acceleration of ovarian insufficiency caused by hysterectomy cannot be denied.

    Notes: Summary The serum levels of FSH, LH and estradiol-17β (E2) were determined in 110 women aged between 38–48 years who had been hysterectomized 2–10 years previously and were compared with a control group (n=112). In hysterectomized women both FSH and LH levels were higher than in controls during the whole 12 year period. These differences were significant up to 43 years of age. The hypergonadotropism in hysterectomized women correlates with the higher incidence of climacteric symptoms reported in the literature.

    Notes: Abstract Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and serum samples of 47 patients with serologically proven neuroborreliosis were examined by Western blotting for antibodies to a crude extract of human cortex (CNS) comprising a multitude (〉 40) of protein bands. Intrathecal synthesis of total immunoglobulins was determined by the Reiber formula and of autoantibodies to CNS proteins by enzyme-linked immunoassay (ELISA) and by Western blotting. Employing ELISA, intrathecal synthesis of autoantibodies (IgG, IgM and/or IgA) was demonstrated in 40 of 47 patients with neuroborreliosis (85%), in 5 of 40 with multiple sclerosis (12%), and in 22 of 40 with viral meningoencephalitis (55%). Of 40, 35 and 15 patients with neuroborreliosis and an intrathecal synthesis of total IgG, IgM or IgA, 20 revealed an intrathecal production of IgG antibodies (50%), 24 of IgM antibodies (68%) and 6 of IgA autoantibodies (40%) in the CSF. The specificity of autoantibodies differed greatly between most patients. Of 24 different CNS proteins which elicited an immune response in various patients, identities could be determined only for the myelin basic protein (5 of 40) and for the three neurofilament proteins (NF-68, NF-150, NF-200) (13 of 40 patients). In this limited number of patients no significant correlation between individual clinical symptoms and certain autoantibodies could be detected. The higher frequency of intrathecally produced autoantibodies in patients with neuroborreliosis is assumed to result from mitogenic rather than specific activation of autoreactive B-cell clones byBorrelia burgdorferi. The pathogenic relevance of these autoantibodies remains to be determined.

In the sonicate EIA, IgG- and/or IgM-antibodies toBorrelia burgdorferi in serum were detected in all patients with neuroborreliosis and in 71% of patients with neurosyphilis. Intrathecal synthesis of borrelial-specific IgG- and/or IgM-antibodies was demonstrated in 82% of patients with neuroborreliosis and in 71% of patients with neurosyphilis. Immunoglobulin G- and/or IgM-antibodies in serum against any of the recombinant antigens were detected in 92% of patients with neuroborreliosis and in none of those with neurosyphilis. Intrathecal synthesis of IgG- and/or IgM-antibodies to individual recombinant antigens was demonstrated in 67% of patients with neuroborreliosis and in none of those with neurosyphilis. The sensitivity of the recombinant antigens in serum was almost equal to that of the sonicate EIA, whereas the recombinant antigens were clearly less sensitive in the estimation of the intrathecal specific immune response. It was concluded that in suspected cases of neuroborreliosis, the estimation of high specific antibodies in the recombinant EIA will be helpful in confirming the diagnosis.
